Mount Paran Christian celebrates its victory over Eagles Landing Christian on Saturday at Perry High School in the Class A Private state semifinals.

The Mount Paran Christian volleyball team advanced to the Class A Private state championship match with a 3-1 victory over Eagles Landing Christian on Saturday at Perry High School.

Mount Paran (35-7) won the match 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20.

The Lady Eagles advanced to play Athens Academy (42-2) on Saturday at the LakePoint Sports Champions Center at 11 a.m.

Claire Jordan led the way with 15 kills and 20 digs and Sara Schwartz had 11 kills and 18 digs. Kara Dunn finished with 14 kills, Paige Armstrong had 23 digs, Mark Lusk had 14 digs and Kaitlyn Moran added 52 assists.


Pope finishes third: The Lady Greyhounds fell one game short of playing for a state championship for the second straight season.

Pope, working its way through the losers bracket, defeated Dacula 12-9 and Cambridge 6-5 on Friday. It came back Saturday and defeated Buford 6-1 before falling to River Ridge in the bracket championship game 7-6.

The Lady Greyhounds (33-4) finished the tournament in third place.

Mount Paran Christian bows out: The Lady Eagles were stopped in their attempt to win back-to-back state championships.

After falling to to the losers bracket, Mount Paran defeated Strong Rock 6-2, but then fell to Tattnall Square 9-4.

The Lady Eagles finished the season 18-6.
