Lassiter beat Newnan 6-2 in the third and deciding game of their first-round Class state playoff series Thursday.

The win moved the Lady Trojans (20-9) into Round 2, where they will travel to Grayson next week.

Lisa Heller was the star at the plate and in the circle. She hit a three-run home run in the top of the first, then added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Heller also pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out five.

Logan Champion had a two-run homer, and Brooke Simms added a pair of doubles.



Walker wins area: Walker swept Mount Paran Christian in a best-of-five match to claim the Area 6A/AA private title.

The Lady Wolverines won each of the first two sets 25-20, then won the clinching third set 25-18.

Four Walker players were named to the all-area team following the tournament. Kaitlyn Rodriguez, Lauren Haynes and Amelia Wetherington were all honored, with Callaway Carson named the area player of the year.

Bella Ferary, Renee’ Dockins, Angel Ferary, and Beth Bowman were named all-area from Mount Paran.

Third-place North Cobb Christian was represented by all-area selections Madison Marquess and Sloan Martin, with Payton Lackey recognized for Mount Bethel Christian.

Harrison, Allatoona and Sequoyah set for big day: The three teams will play Saturday to determine the Region 6AAAAAA champion, and seeding for the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.

Harrison (33-21) beat Allatoona in three sets (25-14, 18-25, 15-11) before falling to Sequoyah (15-25, 16-25).

The Lady Hoyas’ Hailey Craig had 10 kills against Allatoona, and Eden York had a combined 34 assists in the two matches.
