In her first season as Kennesaw State’s coach, Agnus Berenato will lead the Owls into a tournament in Puerto Rico and a matchup with Berenato’s old Georgia Tech team.

The program’s first regular-season trip out of the contiguous U.S., and a visit from Georgia Tech highlight Agnus Berenato’s inaugural schedule as Kennesaw State’s women’s basketball coach.

The Owls will play Arkansas State, Portland State and Xavier as part of the Puerto Rico Christmas Classic in San Juan from Dec. 19-21, the team’s final games of the calendar year.

Kennesaw State’s 14-game non-conference schedule also includes a Nov. 16 home game against Georgia Tech, the team Berenato coached from 1989 through 2003. It will be Berenato’s first time coaching against the Yellow Jackets.

Road games at Vanderbilt (Nov. 11), Georgia (Nov. 16), Mercer (Dec. 3) and Austin Peay (Dec. 14) are also on the schedule, as are visits from Jacksonville State (Nov. 14), Savannah State (Nov. 26), Morehead State (Dec. 17), Wofford (Jan. 2) and Temple (Jan. 4).

The Owls will play nine games against seven teams that reached postseason play last season, including two each against Atlantic Sun Conference champion Jacksonville and fellow A-Sun rival Florida Gulf Coast, which was the WNIT runner-up.

Georgia also reached the NCAA Tournament, while Georgia Tech, Temple, Arkansas State and Mercer were in the WNIT.

“I am looking forward to this opportunity of competing as part of Kennesaw State University and the Atlantic Sun Conference,” Berenato said in a release. “I am excited about our upcoming schedule. We will compete against some tough opponents, but our non-conference schedule will allow us to grow and be prepared for conference play at the beginning of January.”

Kennesaw State will begin its 14-game Atlantic Sun schedule at Lipscomb on Jan. 7. The conference tournament is scheduled for March 3-12 at campus sites.

The Owls’ unofficial season opener will come Nov. 6 with an exhibition against Coastal Georgia, followed five days later by the trip to Vanderbilt to begin the regular season.

Game times will be announced at a later date.
