For those upset about Washington, D.C., becoming a state, remember that it has more population than Vermont and Wyoming and almost as much as Alaska.
In this group, there are two Democratic Senators (Vermont) and four Republicans.
All these states have a population of less than 730,000.
At one time, all these states were territories like Puerto Rico which has a population of 3 million.
For historical reference, in 1889-1890, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming (The Atlantic), were given statehood with 12 new senators and 18 electors. This was a Republican strategy to stay in power after their swing toward big business cost them the popular majority.
I do not like the faux reasons that Republicans give for denying the vote to D.C. or people of color.
