A hearty “thank you” to Cobb EMC “hardhats” who powered us up again last week, showing up before 6 a.m. and restoring our power, out about 12 hours. While most of us think we are “independent,” that’s great while the sun is shining and the sky is blue. But all it takes is a storm and a tree to fall across our power/phone lines, and we are in the Stone Age. We are all-electric. No heat, no light, no internet, no hot water, no idea of when that may change.
Last weekend’s storm took power from thousands in Cobb. We went from watching football, to reading by flashlight and candlelight. While some may say of EMC linemen, “Well, that’s their job,” I am more appreciative. As my son said, “There is something nice about a system which puts nine guys with bucket trucks and chainsaws on your driveway within a few hours of calling them”. I spoke with the linesmen and they had been up all night helping others. I shook hands with them and thanked them for coming.
For over 40 years as all-electric customers of Cobb EMC, we have changed our kids’ diapers with no heat and fogged our breath in our great room when the power went out. It’s no fun. It sure is great to see the EMC guys with the hardhats and the bucket trucks show up. Thank you to the nine guys who showed up. We tip our hats to you.
