Trump needs someone to teach him constitutional law. Article I Section 2 says that the House has the sole power of impeachment, so how can the hearings be a sham or a witch hunt if they are defined in the Constitution? Article II Section 4 says that the president shall be removed from office on impeachment for and conviction of treason, bribery (Quid Pro Quo ?), and other high crimes and misdemeanors. It is not about reversing the 2016 election (even though Trump did not get the popular vote due to the outdated Electoral College) because if Trump were removed from office, Pence would become President, not Hillary Clinton.
Article I Section 3 says the Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When the president is tried, the chief justice shall preside. He cannot be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present. This is unlikely since the Senate is controlled by Republicans who have as their first loyalty to their party and Trump rather than to their country or its people. Why do it then? To get out the behind-the-scenes illegalities so the American people will know before the next election.
Amendment XXII states that no one shall be elected to the office of president more than twice. Trump has stated he will be around for 4 more years or maybe 8,10, or 15 years. Does he plan to overturn this amendment to do it?
Why do the Trump people think they can ignore subpoenas to testify before the House? Do they believe they are above the law? If we did that, we would be in jail.
Trying to out the whistle blower is illegal and dangerous. Trump is asking the media (which he hates) to break the law. The whistle blower is, by law, to be protected. He says that person is a Never Trumper, a Biden staffer and other claims. How does he know this if he does not know who it is? He has called this person a traitor and reminded people what was done to traitors in “the good old days” This is an invitation to one of the crazies out there to kill him/her thinking Trump will praise him.
What about his lawyer —Why does he have his fingers in so many pies with no security clearance?
These are the questions we should be asking ourselves.
