DEAR EDITOR:

I looked up the definition of protest, which is “a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.” The key word is expression. My expression of protest will attempt to be peaceful and nonviolent and have an end game in mind.

While I don’t support the expression of protest using violence, rioting and looting, I am not in a place of denying you your method of expression, but the law is. Protest doesn’t even have to have an end game in mind or done to bring about change but merely to express disapproval. However, peaceful and non violent protest has proven to bring it about.

For me, violent protest just gets you noticed for a moment by news media and leaves in its wake victims to pay the price who might have anything to with what you protested about.
