I was disheartened to see Cobb County School Board member Charisse Davis “endorsing” candidates (all Democrat) for the upcoming school board election. I think this highlights why people are concerned about her as a board member. While I was running for school board Post 5 (to unseat 4 term incumbent David Banks), I heard support from several members of the board, but every one of them said that it was critical for them not to support any specific candidates because in the end, they would all have to be working together for our schools. I could not agree more.

Cobb County’s school system has been one of the very best in the state, in large part because it has had the singular focus of doing the very best to ensure every child had the best opportunity for educational success (One Team. One Goal. Student Success). If our board becomes a partisan encampment or a group that fights over shiny objects rather than focusing on the real mission of educating all of our kids, it will be to the detriment of our entire community. We can and should do better.
