DEAR EDITOR:

We are writing to thank Sheriff Neil Warren for protecting all Georgians by participating in the 287(g) program. Cobb County is to be commended for this. The program is up for renewal in June. We are asking Cobb to please continue the 287(g) program.

Numbers USA states: “A 287(g) agreement allows local police in those jurisdictions to be trained to enforce federal immigration laws. This training provides state and local police with additional tools they can use to prosecute crimes committed by aliens, especially gang violence and document fraud, while reducing the impact of illegal immigration on local communities.”

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, “the 287(g) program works.” With the opioid/ illegal drug crisis and human trafficking as major concerns, doesn’t it make sense to use all the efficient tools we can to keep Georgians safe? Please renew 287(g).
