DEAR EDITOR:

Sam Matthews’ letter on this subject brings a much-needed sensible perspective to the issue of statue removal. His observations bring to mind the notion of forgiveness. To forgive does not mean to forget, of course, but as we have seen in the examples in Charleston and Dallas (not to mention Abraham Lincoln himself), a measure of forgiveness can bring a measure of peace to those who were grievously harmed.
