DEAR EDITOR:

RE: “Braves Fans: Speak up for Skip, Ernie and Pete!,” MDJ, 7/1

Terrific editorial on Monday, July 1, recognizing and complimenting “Ernie, Skip, and Pete!” for their outstanding years of service to the Braves and especially to baseball fans everywhere for so many years! Thank you, David Carroll, for pointing out their distinct personalities that brought the games to us each season, their dedication to the sport and the influence they brought to millions of us for over 30 years. We learned from them, laughed with them, grumbled for many years with them and then finally celebrated with them, the Braves and the game itself.

Even though none of them would be there to accept the award, that “trio” as one definitely needs to be recognized for all that they did for the sport and brought to the fans before those of us who followed and loved them are gone. They definitely gave us years of more than Hall of Fame-caliber entertainment. We, their fans, need to know how we can encourage their nomination for The Ford Frick Award, to be decided on this fall.

They, as one, deserve this induction as they definitely covered all the bases for their years of bringing the sport of baseball to our world!
