I am not proud of the way in which our Congress has been made a publicity platform for irresponsible sensationalism. I am not proud of the reckless abandon in which hearsay and unproved charges have been hurled from both sides of the isle. I am not proud of the obviously staged, undignified charges and countercharges that are continuously bantered about.
I do not like the way Congress has been made a rendezvous for vilification of individual reputations and character assassination. I am not proud of the way Congress smears those inside and outside of their group from the floor of their chambers and hide behind the cloak of congressional immunity.
As an American, I am shocked at the way Democrats and Republicans alike are playing directly into the hands of the Communist design of “confuse, divide, and conquer.” I do not want a Republican administration white-wash or cover up any more than I want a Democrat smear or witch-hunt.
As an American, I condemn both Republicans and Democrats when they handle our affairs in such a manner as they are equally dangerous to you and me and to our country.
As an American, I want to see our nation recapture the strength and unity it once had when we fought our enemies instead of ourselves.
These are not solely my own thoughts as I have plagiarized much from a speech given by the only woman in the 1950 Senate, Margaret Chase Smith, when she expressed such concerns during the McCarthy era. How soon we forget the lessons of history and therefore must relive them. Those we elect to govern must understand they represent all of us not just a few. We are a blessed nation and I pray God will continue to have mercy on us and our country.
