DEAR EDITOR:

Concerning the covered bridge accidents: It is sad that most people today are so focused on their own thoughts and intentions, they pay no attention to anything else.

The most effective way to reach people’s reality is to hit them in the pocketbook.

I think anyone running into the bridge, ignoring all the warnings, should be fined $1000 immediately. They should have to pay the fine or face jail time. I guarantee you that after the 2nd or 3rd publicly advertised fine, people would start paying attention.

It sounds hardhearted, but sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. That bridge is an historical part of the area’s history and should be protected.
