DEAR EDITOR:

During the dreaded SARS virus, but non-media-hyped, and 45 million Americans were stricken an about 61,000 died. Where was the panic?

Per various sources, 90%+ of the people succumbing to this virus have existing medical conditions.

Bottom line is people today have a weak immune system, kids do not play outside, they get a sniffle and Mommy wants them to get antibiotics.

I grew up with a kerosene soaked rag that went on a cut. You got your vaccines, ran barefoot, slapped a Band-Aid on a boo-boo.

I am 70 years old, never had the flu, get two sinus infections a year due to white oak, pollen and leaves, took malaria tablets for over 30 years, have Agent Orange exposure and complications from it.

But my doctor says I am healthier than most 30 year olds. And because of my immune system, even if I get it, no big deal.

Wake up, people. Get your kids out in the dirt, lay off the antibiotics, get their vaccinations, throw those video games in the trash. A little cut or scrape does not need as doctor, wipe it with a little spit and put a Band-Aid on it.

As for now use some common sense, keep your distance, respect others, and get outside, fresh air is good for your, and drink out of the garden hose, it will not kill you.
