DEAR EDITOR:

Regarding the letters from Karen Mellott and Beverly Wynne excoriating Ginny Ehrhart for her proposed bill to protect children from being subjected to gender transition medical procedures: These two women are so off base it’s frightening. Children do not have the emotional development or life experiences to make life changing decisions like this. Their brains don’t fully develop until well into their twenties. Hence higher auto insurance rates for drivers under the age of 25 and the need for laws regarding statutory rape.

It’s the parents and quack mental health “professionals” who are perpetuating the confusion and planting ideas in their children’s heads.

A tragic example is the mother in Texas who insists that her son is a girl and dresses him as a girl, has named him Luna and wants to start the transition medication soon. Her son is only 6 or 7 years old. The court sided with the mother in the custody battle with the father, who says the boy dresses as a boy and wants to be a boy when he visits. That child has not made the decision — his mother has.

And to those who argue that children will commit suicide if they don’t go through the transition, statistics show that the suicide rate is higher for those who have gone through the transition. Ms. Ehrhart’s bill is truly a step to protect vulnerable children from adults who would subject them to procedures that will cause lifelong harm.
