Your editorial admonishing School Board Members Howard and Richards is way off base. They are the only board members gutsy enough to ask a poignant question: “Can we just explore the current method of the senior school tax exemption”? MDJ’s response, like the majority of school board’s, labels any effort to revisit the exemption as taking away the exemption altogether as if there aren’t any other options.
I’m a Cobb senior and enjoy this very nice exemption. However, I understand the current concerns about school funding. Surely there’s a way to set some kind of means-testing that would allow most seniors to keep the exemption. Why should seniors at the high end of the income scale — who hardly need it — escape paying something into the kitty? Let’s be fair about this!
