DEAR EDITOR:

How prophetic that the following item appeared in the “Today In History” column:

1858: Accepting the Illinois Republican Party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate, Abraham Lincoln said the slavery issue had to be resolved, declaring, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

If ever there is a time where this applies, it is in today’s fractured society. Let’s all try to come together and solve these many issues that are driving us apart.
