I write to express my gratitude to the Georgia General Assembly for passing HB567 and the governor who helped reauthorize and sign HB567, Georgia’s Newborn Screening Bill. This bill helps save the lives of more than 700 babies born in Georgia each year. This program is paramount to not only saving lives, but also to transforming the life of those born with rare diseases.

As someone living with an immune disorder, I understand the impact of early intervention because I’ve seen firsthand how the right treatment can restore my ability to live life to the fullest and thrive as a college student. Before treatment and diagnosis I had to retire my high school athlete career and I thought I might never be able to run again. After receiving antibodies for my disease, I am now able to participate in 5Ks again.

This zebra patient is thankful for being able to run again. Thank you, Georgia legislators, for not only caring about every constituent in your state, but also inspiring patients like me to follow their dreams.
