Gene  Lance

Gene Burton Lance, 89, of Marietta, GA passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, in Marietta, Georgia. A Funeral Service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs, GA. on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 2:00 PM with Bruce Hamrick officiating. An interment will follow the service at Kennesaw Memorial Park. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Mary Lance, of Marietta, GA.; his daughters Kathy Mitchell of Dallas, GA., Becky Slatton of Hiram, GA. and his son Thomas Lance (Becky) of Cumming, GA.; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his brother Joe Lance (Carol) of Ashland, OH.; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Janice Lance, and his siblings Richard Lance, Carolyn Edwards and Billy Lance. After graduating High School Gene enlisted in the Army where he served three years. During this time, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Korea building air strips during the Korean War. He was also awarded a Korean Service Medal. After his honorable discharge from his tour of duty he was employed by the A&P Grocery chain and retired after 42 dedicated years of service. He also worked part time at the Richardson Bicycle shop for a number of years. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
