Bernede Celia Cowan, 90, of Marietta, Georgia, joined husband, Curtis C. Cowan in the loving care of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 8, 2021.Born January 6, 1931 as Bernede Celia Skidmore, to George and Ruby Skidmore of Detroit, MI. Bernede Cowan was one of four Skidmore children - two brothers, Norman and Lenford (both deceased), and survived by one sister, Patricia Seagroves of Midwest City, OK. Bernede was the faithful wife of Curtis Cowan, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Until health concerns no longer allowed, Bernede was an active member of Macland Baptist Church, Powder Springs GA. Her and Curtis enjoyed an especially loving and supportive church family and Sunday School class. Bernede graduated from Forge Ridge High School, Harrogate, TN in 1949 and married Curtis on December 20, 1952. A serviceman's wife, she and Curtis moved 18 times during his career with the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his retirement in 1967, they returned to Marietta, GA, where they lived for the next 50 years. In 2017, they were moved to a care facility in the Savannah, GA area. Bernede is survived by sons Michael (Becky) and Randall (Karen), three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Just five months ago, Bernede' husband Curtis, was buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. though she is now with him in heaven, her body will be buried with his in Canton. A memorial service at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna, GA will be held on Tuesday, January 12, at 10am. The Cowans' longtime Sunday School teacher, brother Gene Hice, will speak. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Bernede's memory be sent to Macland Baptist Church, 3732 Powder Springs Rd., Powder Springs, GA 30127.
