The Walker School has named its new director of communications and marketing.

Karen Park lives in Marietta with her family and will take over as director beginning July 30, according to Kristy Helms, a spokeswoman for the school. Park will lead the “strategy, planning and implementation of marketing and communications initiatives” for the Marietta private school, Helms said.

Park has worked at The Detroit Free Press, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and most recently at InterContinental Hotels Group. She said she has also had a child at The Walker School for the last five years.

“I am excited and honored to work with faculty, staff, alumni, parents and students to share all of the amazing innovation, passion, hard work and fun that happens at Walker,” Park said.

Helms said Park was chosen out of more than 100 applicants, during a nationwide search to fill the director role.

Jack Hall, The Walker School’s head of school, said the school’s search committee unanimously endorsed Park for the job.

“Karen brings a level of expertise, passion, and ‘above and beyond’ approach to her work that will make her extremely successful as the Director of Communications and Marketing at The Walker School,” Hall said.

Park is a graduate of the University of Kansas’ William Allen White School of Journalism. Hall declined to provide the salary Park will receive, citing school policy.
