Four local schools have ranked among the top 10 best in Georgia on U.S. News & World Report’s first school rankings for grades K-8.

Three east Cobb middle schools, Dodgen, Dickerson and Hightower Trail, made the top 10 cut, falling in the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 spots on the middle school list. Other Cobb middle schools that show up within the top 100 include:

♦ Lost Mountain at No. 18;

♦ Simpson at No. 26;

♦ Mabry at No. 34;

♦ Lovinggood at No. 41;

♦ Durham at No. 46;

♦ McClure at No. 57;

♦ Palmer at No. 84; and

♦ Barber at No. 100

Marietta City Schools’ Marietta Center for Advanced Academics was the sole school from Cobb’s two districts to make the top 10 on the elementary list, sitting at No. 8.

However, several Cobb County elementary schools fell within the top 100:

♦ Murdock at No. 12;

♦ Timber Ridge at No. 17;

♦ Mountain View at No. 20;

♦ Sope Creek at No. 32;

♦ Mount Bethel at No. 33;

♦ Tritt at No. 36;

♦ Shallowford Falls at No. 53;

♦ East Side at No. 59; and

♦ Kemp at No. 66
