Smyrna Police Chief David Lee promoted Sgt. Ed Cason to the rank of lieutenant and Detective Ron Eaton to the rank of sergeant on May 14.

Lt. Cason is a 20-year veteran of the Smyrna Police Department. Prior to join the Department, he served the Navy. Upon completion of the police academy at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. He has served as an undercover narcotics agent, crime prevention/PIO, patrol sergeant and most recently prior to his promotion, the department training Sergeant.

Sgt. Eaton is a 28-year veteran of the Department. He attended the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy. Upon his graduation from the police academy, he was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. He served in the Division for years while he also ran a locally owned family business in Smyrna. After selling his business, Sgt. Eaton was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective. While assigned to investigations, he worked on a host of

complex cases that resulted in countless convictions of criminal offenders. He is a state certified Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer Examiner and a state certified Crime Scene Technician.
