The site of a vacant office building along Ebenezer Road in northeast Cobb could become the home of a shopping center, restaurants and/or office space under a rezoning proposal to be considered Tuesday.
A 1.7-acre property at 4076 Ebenezer Road, just east of Canton Road and southwest of Noonday Baptist Church, is currently zoned under the neighborhood shopping category but is being sought by Saw Holding to be rezoned as neighborhood retail commercial.
The rezoning is being requested to make way for a one-story building of 2,241 square feet for the purpose of restaurants, grocery store and offices, with proposed hours of operation to be daily from 8 a.m. until midnight.
No specific grocery, restaurant or other business is listed in county documents regarding the proposed rezoning.
If the Cobb Planning Commission moves the application forward Tuesday, either by recommending approval or denial, it could be considered by Cobb commissioners at their July 16 meeting.
County zoning staff is recommending approval of the rezoning, though they noted about 0.6 acres of the property along Canton Road had recently been cleared without approval, including a portion of a state water buffer and a Federal Emergency Management Agency 100-year floodplain.
The northeast Cobb case is one of only a few zoning issues set to be discussed on a light agenda as compared to most other months during the year. Tuesday’s meeting comes two days before the July 4 holiday.
The Cobb Planning Commission meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Cobb Government Building.
