If you own a vehicle and the tag expires in May or June, you might want to get a jump on renewing your tag.

That’s because the Georgia Department of Revenue is replacing its software system at all tag offices statewide.

Because of the software update, online and kiosk tag renewal will be unavailable from May 21 to May 29, and mail and in-office tag and title transactions will be unavailable from May 23 to May 28, according to the Cobb Tax Commissioner’s office.

In a video announcement, Cobb Tax Commissioner Carla Jackson urged drivers whose tags are set to expire soon to finish their emissions, confirm their insurance and renew their tags early.

“This replacement is much needed, and I assure you that our office is working diligently along with the Department of Revenue and tag offices across the state to continue to provide exceptional customer service during this transition,” she said. “However, like with any technology change or upgrade, there will be system downtime. Additionally, after the replacement has been completed, there may be intermittent downtimes as we tweak the system or as users continue to learn the features of the system.”

The county is currently offering renewal kiosks at the following expanded locations:

♦ South Office in Austell, located at 4700 Austell Road, from 6 a.m. to midnight

♦ North Office in Marietta, located at 2932 Canton Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

♦ West Marietta Crossing Kroger in Marietta, located at 1000 Whitlock Avenue, from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.

♦ Shallowford Falls Kroger in Marietta, located at 3162 Johnson Ferry Road, from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.

♦ Smyrna Kroger in Smyrna, located at 3240 South Cobb Drive, from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.
