Vernell Davontez Sanders was arrested this week in Douglas County as a suspect in a 2020 Austell robbery and murder.

The Cobb and Douglas county sheriff offices arrested a man this week who is a suspect in a 2020 Austell home invasion that left a man dead.

Officers, with U.S. Marshals in tow, arrested Vernell Davontez Sanders in Douglas County on murder charges Monday, charging him in Cobb.

Sanders is alleged to have robbed Harold Roberson of marijuana and cash at an apartment near Six Flags Over Georgia in October 2020. Roberson was shot during the stickup, and died of his injuries over a week later.

Sanders is being held in the Cobb County jail, without bond, on charges of armed robbery, firearms possession during the commission of a crime, aggravated assault, and murder.
