A 41-year-old Mableton man accused of shooting a firearm at others was shot by police on Saturday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports.

The Cobb County Police Department received a 911 call at 11:38 a.m. Saturday from a resident at 4683 Heritage Lakes Court, Mableton, located south of the East-West Connector near Floyd Road.

An armed man, identified as Cesar Anthony Pena, was shooting at family members in the home, the GBI said in a news release.

Officers responded and while there, heard gun shots inside the home. At one point when Pena stepped outside onto the front porch with a shotgun, two officers shot Pena. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cobb County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 58th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2022.
