The Marietta Fire Department is allowing cars to be removed from the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital parking deck which caught fire Thursday, officials say.

Fire Chief Tim Milligan said crews have shored up the deck with metal poles “out of an abundance of caution” while engineers continue to evaluate its structural soundness. No vehicles are being allowed to re-enter the deck.

At least 15 cars were damaged Thursday after a car fire ignited on the deck’s third level. Because of the insurance complications arising from the number of vehicles involved, Milligan said the cause of the fire likely wouldn’t be determined by investigators until next week.
