A teen motorcyclist is recovering at WellStar Kennestone Hospital after clipping the wheel of a tractor trailer Tuesday morning and being thrown from his bike into a brick sign, Marietta police said.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. along Canton Road at its intersection with Ruby Street, said Officer Jared Rakestraw, spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.

The rider, identified as 19-year-old Marietta resident Kirby Fenton, was improperly passing vehicles just before the wreck, police said. He was thrown from his 2007 Kawasaki ZX600 as he tried to pass a tractor trailer making a right onto Ruby Street.

The bike collided with the semi’s front passenger’s wheel area, ejecting Fenton, who struck a brick sign on the west side of Canton Road, Rakestraw said.

Fenton suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to Kennestone Hospital. He has since been stabilized and is expected to survive, police said.

The crash remains under investigation and charges against Fenton are pending, police said. Anyone with information regarding this crash is urged to contact Officer B. Wallace at 770-794-5266.
