Cobb County’s elections department will audit the results of Tuesday’s runoff election for Smyrna City Council’s Ward 2.

Latonia Hines, an attorney and prosecutor in the Cobb District Attorney’s office, narrowly defeated Natalie Keng, CEO and founder of food company Global Hearth, in the race. Hines received 203 votes, or 52%, over Keng’s 188 votes, or 48%.

The audit will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday at 736 Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, and was not “required or requested,” according to county spokesman Ross Cavitt. It’s instead being used to verify the accuracy of the county’s tabulation equipment.

The Cobb Board of Elections is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. Monday to certify this week’s election results.
