On May 30, North Cobb Civitan Club members toured Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Georgia (Devereux Georgia), located in Kennesaw, and presented a check for $1,500 to support the organization’s mission.

“We were overwhelmed at the impact Devereux is making in the lives of these vulnerable kids,” said North Cobb Civitan Club Co-President and Nothing Bundt Cakes Owner Kristi Janman. “What sets them apart is how they break down all the complicated layers of diagnoses and medications and strive to truly heal these children and young adults. It was a privilege to tour their beautiful campus and contribute to their mission.”

Along with financial support, North Cobb Civitan held an underwear drive in December 2018 for the children of Devereux.

Civitan is a worldwide, all volunteer, nonprofit, service organization where men and women have an organized way of approaching local community problems through service and fundraising. North Cobb Civitan emphasizes serving people with mental and physical disabilities, youth, senior citizens, and the North Cobb community. The club participates in monthly volunteer and social activities and hosts community speakers at bi-weekly meetings held at Diner Bakery in Kennesaw. Members of the club collect funds to support community organizations through various fundraisers throughout the year, including selling fruitcakes, and the club’s annual event, Dinner with a Twist.

Don’t miss the Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s production of “Oliver!” through running now through June 23 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. Lionel Bart’s classic musical based on Charles Dickens’ novel, “Oliver Twist,” won Tony and Olivier Awards when it was on Broadway. It is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets, led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow, takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family. “Oliver!” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

The show is taking place at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre (548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta 30060). For show times and tickets, visit atlantalyrictheatre.com/show/oliver.
