A special preview of excerpts of "American Experience: Chasing the Moon" will be screened Friday at 6 p.m. at the Sewell Mill Library & Cultural Center, 2051 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta.

This three-part, six-hour film series on the Space Age debuts on PBS this summer as the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

PBS describes "Chasing the Moon" as a film that “reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort" and "recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama.”

The selection being shown at the library covers the launch of Apollo 11 on July 16, 1969, through the lunar module landing on July 20, 1969.
