Cowboy up this weekend. The Cobb County Rodeo is Friday, June 21 and Saturday June 22 beginning at 8 p.m. on both days at Jim R. Miller Park. Gates and parking open at 6 p.m. and the boot scootin’ fun will last for about two hours each night. GO!

“I started attending rodeos when I was about 12 years old and rode horses at the time,” said Marietta resident Summer Golden. She is a rising sophomore at Texas Christian University and daughter of Michele and Peter Golden. “Girls who I rode with would go on Friday night after camp, so my sister and I joined them and we’ve gone ever since! Sometimes, we’ll even go both Friday and Saturday night because both can be so different.”

During the rodeo, professional cowboys and cowgirls will compete for championship points each night. The cost at the gate for attendees is $15 for adults and $12 for children. Events will include bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping and barrel racing. There are also trick riders and rodeo clowns.

“There’s also many activities for children to enjoy. There’s a mechanical bull, petting zoo, and a chance to chase a calf for a prize. Traditional Southern carnival food and car shows also exist during the rodeo. It’s so much more than just this though, you truly have to be there to experience all the fun,” Golden said.

The rodeo is a unique event. “I enjoy going to rodeos because they’re so different from anything l traditionally experience. It’s something that only comes around a few times a year and is a great opportunity for friends and family to experience a night of fun. It’s exhilarating to watch riders and cowboys work with these animals, especially when the outcome between them is so unexpected,” Golden said.

The rodeo is family-friendly and enjoyable for everyone. “The rodeo is so much different than an event anyone usually experiences. Whether you are interested in this type of entertainment or not, anyone can truly have a fun night. I promise you will not regret your time at the rodeo and will return every year,” Golden said.

Jim R. Miller Park is at 2245 Callaway Rd. SW, Marietta, 30008. To learn more, visit cobbcountyrodeo.com.
