Kennesaw State University’s Marietta campus was locked down for about an hour Tuesday night after an armed robbery at a Mexican restaurant near the campus, according to Marietta police.

Around 9 p.m., an armed suspect entered El Ranchero, a restaurant at 562 Cobb Parkway, near its intersection with South Marietta Parkway. The suspect pointed a handgun at a waiter and demanded money, Marietta police said. The gun was not fired, and the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police established a perimeter and searched for the suspect on foot, to no avail. The robbery is continuing to be investigated, police said.

KSU issued an alert at 9:11 p.m. saying an armed intruder had been reported on the Marietta campus. The alert advised people to seek shelter and lock all doors and windows. At 10:19 p.m., KSU issued an all-clear to return to normal operations.
