A reported gas main rupture Wednesday afternoon led to the closure of an intersection near downtown Smyrna but was stopped about 4:15 p.m., city officials announced.

King and Church streets were closed by the Smyrna Fire Department, which responded to the incident. As of 5:15 p.m., the intersection of the two roads remained closed, but could be open by 7 p.m., according to Smyrna Fire Division Chief Eric Farmer.

A flagging operation is expected to remain at that location until about 6:30 p.m.

The leak led nearby Smyrna First United Methodist Church to cancel all of its Wednesday night activities, including dinner, according to an email sent out by the church Wednesday afternoon.
