A fire at a Vinings apartment complex damaged nine units and displaced close to two dozen residents Tuesday afternoon.
No injuries to residents or fire personnel were reported following the blaze at the WestHaven at Vinings apartment community at 3061 Paces Station Ridge, according to James Kapish, public information officer for the Cobb County Fire Department.
Dispatchers received the call about a house fire at about 3:07 p.m., with fire personnel responding to the scene about five minutes later, arriving to find heavy flames and smoke through the roof, Kapish said.
It took firefighters 82 minutes, or until just after 4:30 p.m., to extinguish the blaze, which left significant damage, Kapish added, with the building potentially being a total loss.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Nine units of the building were affected, Kapish said, displacing between 20 and 25 residents.
Red Cross Georgia provided emergency assistance for seven displaced residents, helping them with food, clothing, replacement medications and other needs following the fire, according to the nonprofit’s Facebook page, which also said apartment management offered overnight lodging for the residents in other vacant units in the complex. Red Cross contact information was also left with management for two residents who were not home at the time of the fire, while caseworkers will follow up with all those impacted to help them through the recovery process.
