Drum Corps International

The Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio, compete at a previous event. Drum Corps International, Marching Music’s Major League, will be hosted this year at McEachern High School in Powder Springs for the 2017 Southeastern Championship on Saturday, July 29. 

Drum Corps International, Marching Music’s Major League, will return to Atlanta for the 2017 Southeastern Championship on Saturday, July 29. Hosted this year at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, the Southeastern Championship is part of the 45th Anniversary Summer Tour that includes 110 shows in 37 states with 55 drum corps vying for this year’s Open and World Class titles.

This year’s line-up will feature tight-scoring, head-to-head competition among the World Class corps with revolutionary show concepts. Joining the World Class corps will be many Open Class corps, also vying for position in the overall standings for the remainder of the season. The result will be an action-packed event with music, color, and pageantry at the highest level of competition.

Eighteen groups from across 13 states will be performing including Atlanta CV, The Academy of Tempe, Arizona; Blue Devils of Concord, California; Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio; Blue Knights of Denver, Colorado; Blue Stars of La Crosse, Wisconsin; The Cadets of Allentown, Pennsylvania; Carolina Crown of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; The Cavaliers of Rosemont, Illinois; Genesis of Austin, Texas; Jersey Surf of Camden County, New Jersey; Oregon Crusaders of Portland, Oregon; Pacific Crest of Diamond Bar, California; Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois; Pioneer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Santa Clara Vangaurd of Santa Clara, California; Seattle Cascades of Seattle, Washington; and Spirit of Atlanta.

Each group features musical ensembles of up to 150 brass musicians, percussionists, and dance performers ranging in age from 14 to 22. Staged on the football field, these corps’ performances feature spellbinding visual formations and stunning choreography set to musical arrangements in a diverse array of classical, jazz, pop and rock music.
