An Alabama man was killed Friday morning after he jumped out of a car driving on Interstate 75 and was hit by a tractor-trailer, according to Cobb police.
A silver Acura was heading south on I-75, just north of Wade Green Road, when the passenger in the car opened the door and jumped out while the car was traveling at interstate speed “for reasons unknown,” according to Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesperson for Cobb police.
The passenger, 40-year-old Duane Taffe of Decatur, Alabama, was lying in the road when the driver of the car, 39-year-old Sheldon Taffe of Huntsville, Alabama, pulled over and ran to get him to his feet, according to Pierce. Duane and Sheldon Taffe are cousins, Pierce said.
While Sheldon Taffe was trying to help his cousin, a struggle ensued and Duane Taffe broke free from his cousin, Pierce said. Duane Taffe then began running north in the right lane of the interstate and was hit by a tractor-trailer, according to police.
Duane Taffe was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
Charges are not expected to be filed in this case, but anyone with information about it is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
