Paulding sheriff’s deputies and Hiram police investigate a shooting inside Home Depot in Hiram on May 3.

An argument between two men sparked a physical altercation before one shot the other inside a Hiram Home Depot store this morning, May 3, the Paulding sheriff's office reported.

Deputies "quickly" took one man into custody and the victim was transported to an area hospital following the 8:47 a.m. shooting at the retailer at the corner of U.S. Hwy. 278 and Depot Drive.

Paulding deputies and Hiram Police officers responded to a report of a shooting that took place inside the store and took the shooter into custody without incident, the sheriff's office reported.

"Detectives later learned that a verbal altercation began in the Garden Center between two males that previously knew each other," the report stated.

"The argument then spilled over into the store which is where it got physical. Once it got physical, one of the males fired a lone shot, striking the victim in the torso."

The victim then was able to go to the store's Customer Service Center for help.

"At this point we do not know what led up to the altercation but do know that the two individuals involved knew each other prior to the incident," the report stated.

"Neither party involved was an employee of The Home Depot and no one else was injured during this incident."

The Paulding sheriff's office will provide more information as learns more about the incident, it stated.

The store is located within a heavy concentration of shopping centers, retailers and restaurants facing the county's main thoroughfare in Hiram in eastern Paulding.

I am a conceal carry permitted citizen and strong supporter of the 2nd amendment. every time I see a story like this, I cringe. There are too many trigger happy cowboys out there that should not have the the right to C&C because they lack self control. If you draw your weapon every time you get into a verbal altercation with an individual maybe you shouldn't have the right to carry a weapon.I carry for safety purposes. People like you that draw down at the slightest excuse doesn't inspire safe environment for the general public.People like this shooter are making us safe C&C owners look bad. I cannot defend your right to carry if you can't carry responsibly.
