Paulding County officials closed seven roads to motorists today after heavy rains washed away the pavement on three roads and standing water swamped the rest.

Paulding County Fire Department reported Gore Lakes Road off of Mt. Olivet Road was shut down after rains caused by Hurricane Michael washed the road away.

In addition, officials closed Hitchcock Road off Ridge Road; and Woodrow Kay Road near Proctor Road after heavy rains washed away pavement.

They also closed Bob Hunton Road because of water over the roadway. Once the water recedes the pavement's integrity will be checked, said Lt. Steve Mapes of the Paulding County Fire Department.

Garmon Road near Hughes Road; Williams Lake Road; and Mud Green Road are closed due to deep water covering the roadway, Mapes said.

Paulding DOT has placed barricades and signage telling motorists they are closed until further notice, he said.
