Douglas County is recruiting a wide range of local transportation providers to participate in a voucher program for seniors and the disabled.

The county is seeking such providers as taxi companies, van services and non-emergency medical transportation services to participate in the program offered by Douglas County Rideshare/Multi-Modal Transportation Services.

The purpose of the program is to assist those ages 50 and above and disabled individuals ages 50 to 59 in paying for “quality of life” trips for purposes such as shopping, entertainment and visiting with friends and family, a county government news release stated.

Seniors and disabled individuals who are approved to participate in the program contact designated transportation providers directly to arrange the trips and pay for them using vouchers for the purchase at a highly discounted rate from the Multi-Modal Transportation Office at 8800 Dorris Road near the Douglas County Courthouse.

The voucher program also offers assistance to seniors and the disabled with planning trips, particularly those that offer a connection with a neighboring transportation provider such as Cobb Community Transit or MARTA.
