WellStar Paulding Hospital hosted its inaugural Cancer Survivor Day celebration recently by honoring 106 survivors and their family members.

The event was titled, "Blast from the Past," and those invited were urged to "come dressed to represent your favorite decade."

Kellie Mitchell, the hospital’s nurse navigator and a cancer survivor, worked in the preceding months to organize the event by recruiting fellow staff members across the hospital campus, a news release stated.

Organizers also worked to partner with community businesses, Mitchell said.

Huey Luey’s restaurant donated a taco and nacho bar for the participants, while Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center provided a DJ and music. Several area grocery store chains donated bakery items for a cake walk, she said.

She said WellStar Paulding Hospital planned to host the event annually to celebrate Paulding's cancer survivors.
