A few hundred braved the midday heat to honor Paulding's war dead and see the county's Veterans Memorial Monument unveiled in its new location in Dallas May 27.

American Legion Post 111 organized the Paulding County Memorial Day Service today at the new home of the monument in Veterans Park adjacent to the Watson Government Building and Courthouse on U.S. Hwy. 278 in Dallas.

Legion members asked the Paulding County Board of Commissioners for help with the relocation in recent months.

The group in 2018 began informally discussing with commissioners a possible move to a more visible location in the park, which is seen by those traveling to the government building and courthouse for a variety of county services.

Legion members had raised the funds and dedicated the memorial in 1996 in the rear of a former bank building adjacent to county government offices in downtown Dallas.

The county moved its offices and courthouse from downtown Dallas to the Watson Government Building and Courthouse in western Dallas in 2007.
