Cartersville will add another reason to visit its historic downtown when it hosts its annual Music by the Tracks summer concert series beginning Saturday, May 18.

The monthly series will open with 7 p.m. performances by Milky Sway and My Ninja!, following a 6 p.m. performance by the winner of singer-songwriter Daniel Lieving’s Open Mic Night competitions, said Lillie Read, director of the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority.

Milky Sway and My Ninja! will offer alternative rock music at the May 18 show at Cartersville Train Depot at 1 Friendship Plaza in Cartersville, Read said.

The show is free, but organizers urge attendees to bring their own seating.

Read said she also hoped the music series would encourage people to begin their day early in the downtown area shopping and dining, before ending their day at the Saturday night performances.

She said she and other organizers “tried to mix it up” on performers’ music genres this year.

The June 15 show is set to feature Gregg Allman tribute band The Michael Allman Band, while the July 20 Concert by the Tracks will feature Adairsville-based country rock band Babes Bayou, Read noted.

Organizers also are planning future shows this year to include acts like Cartersville-based jazz fusion band The 4 Korners, and a Chicago tribute band, Read said.

The downtown development authority wanted to create a new outdoor music series after the area hosted a series before she began working in her position in mid-2015, Read said.

“I felt like we should bring the music back downtown,” she said.

Attendance increased in 2018 despite the weather being rainy most weekends, she said.

The Local Bar and Grill will be selling beer, wine, water and sodas while “a few downtown restaurants” may offer some of their dishes for sale, organizers said.

However, attendees are prohibited from bringing outside alcoholic beverages into the venue with them, according to a notice on

Some VIP tables with seating for eight near the front of the audience area are available for rental at $100 each, Read said. For more information, visit

Sponsors for the concert series include Georgia Highlands College, H&R Block, Southern Devil Harley-Davidson, Century Bank and Hotel Meeting Match.
