If you want to learn CPR or how to prevent someone from bleeding to death, now’s your chance.

During EMS Week (May 19 through 25) AMR (American Medical Response) will offer free compression-only CPR and Stop the Bleed training across DeKalb, Fulton and Troup counties to teach as many people as possible how to save someone’s life in the event of sudden cardiac arrest or severe bleeding.

No matter how rapid the arrival of first responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. Compression-only (or “hands only”) CPR has been shown to double the chances of someone surviving a cardiac event until EMS can arrive. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes; therefore, it is important to quickly stop the blood loss. Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care.

Adults and children as young as 8 can take the classes. They will take place at the following locations:

May 19 through 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CPR training only): Walmart, 5935 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain. For more information, call Jeff, the store manager, at 404-260-6142.
