Tiny door comes to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta recently unveiled the newest addition in a special project that proves the best things can come in small packages. Children’s teamed up with Tiny Doors ATL, an Atlanta-based art project bringing big wonder to tiny spaces, to install a whimsical addition to the courtyard at Children’s at Hughes Spalding in downtown Atlanta. The project is designed to motivate patients to get out of bed for a garden walk – even when they aren’t always feeling their best – and inspire imagination that takes our patients to far away magical places outside the hospitals’ walls. Construction with Karen Anderson Singer, principal artist and director of Tiny Doors, took hours, and the team worked hard to pick the perfect location, at the edge the courtyard and accessible to all. The project is the second Tiny Door intended to be Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant with a widened door frame (with a door painted Children’s green, of course) and wheelchair ramp. This is the second of three Tiny Doors to be installed at Children’s locations in the coming months. The doors at both Egleston and Hughes Spalding are not open to the public and were designed especially for hospital patients.
