Three local chapters of Sunrise Movement, a nationwide youth movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process, recently hosted a Green New Deal teach-in at Piedmont Park in Midtown. Thirty Sunrise Movement Atlanta, Decatur and Clayton County members participated in the event, where they demanded bold action from the Biden administration and new Congress to immediately address climate change, the economic crisis and systemic inequality, following the Senate runoff elections in Georgia and securing Democratic control. The teach-in included demands brought on by a coalition of youth and BIPOC-led organizations nationwide as part of a national day of action coordinated by Sunrise Movement, following the inauguration.
