St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Brookhaven recently welcomed retired military personnel and community members to campus for its annual Veterans Day celebration. The program included student essays honoring veterans, patriotic music performed by the school’s choruses and bands and a presentation of the flag by the fourth grade. District 33 State Sen. Michael Rhett, D-Marietta, a retired Air Force master sergeant, served as the keynote speaker. Awards were presented to student winners of a school-wide essay contest, “The Veteran I Admire Most,” and for a veteran-themed art contest. Award recipients included, from left, Jillian Studdard (middle school art contest winner), Wes Hannah (elementary school art contest winner), Alexander Milkzikhov (middle school essay runner-up), Judson Divenere (middle school essay winner), Cole Bertolino (elementary school essay runner-up) and Charlotte Terry (elementary school essay winner).
