Henry County Superior Court jurors on July 13 convicted a man of raping a 15-year-old girl at Richard Craig Park in McDonough.

According to a news release, after deliberating for several hours, the jury found Yvari Brown guilty of rape and aggravated sodomy.

“At trial, jurors heard from McDonough police officers and the director of the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center, as well as the victim,” county district attorney’s office spokeswoman Cheveda McCamy said in a statement.

The victim testified that she was at the park on Oct. 30, 2016 when the defendant arrived in a car with several friends.

The defendant took the girl to a tube slide and then forced her to have sex.

She told him to stop, but he covered her mouth with his hand while he raped her, the girl testified.

Superior Court Judge John A. “Trea” Pipkin III will sentence Brown on July 30.

Brown faces life in prison.
