Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr., recently announced the rape conviction, by a Fulton County Superior Court Jury, of 34-year-old Johnny Mouzon.
On September 24, 2013, the 24-year-old victim was sleeping with her infant child in her College Park apartment when she awoke to someone grabbing her legs and pulling her to the edge of the bed. The victim assumed it was her boyfriend because it was dark in the room and she could not see the man’s face. The victim, however, did not know that her boyfriend had already left the unit. Instead, it was Johnny Mouzon, who lived in an upstairs apartment. The defendant entered the victim’s unit through an unlocked door. The victim, still believing it was her boyfriend, told the defendant to stop having sex with her, when her infant child started crying. At that point the defendant said, “Don’t worry about all that.”
That was when the victim realized it was not her boyfriend having sex with her; it was a stranger raping her. When the victim realized what was happening, the defendant fled the apartment immediately. The victim then called police.
The victim was transported to Atlanta Medical Center where a sexual assault kit was completed. On December 13, 2013, a CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) hit matched Mouzon’s DNA to the DNA obtained during an examination of the victim’s sexual assault kit. Mouzon is a repeat offender who has (15) prior arrests and (5) prior convictions, including (4) felonies. The defendant was convicted of Burglary in 2002 and 2003, False Imprisonment in 2010, and Public Indecency-Sexual Intercourse (Misdemeanor) in 2002.
He was convicted of rape and burglary. Mouzon was sentenced to Life Without Parole Plus 20 Years
Senior Judge Jerry W. Baxter, of the Superior Court of Fulton County, presided over the case. Assistant District Attorney Shamma Iqbal led the prosecution of the case. She was assisted by Assistant District Attorney Tash Pennant, Investigator Ken Rucker, and Victim-Witness-Advocate Alicia Gray of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Detective Rittberg from the Fulton County Police Department was the Lead Investigator in this case.
